PHOTOGRAPHICAL AND TYPOLOGICAL INVENTORY

C18- CROP ROTATION AND FALLOWING

An irrigation system in the valley of Gindah (Eritrea). The area situated between the arid coast and the highland receives the humidity of the thermal currents coming up from the Red Sea.
The fruitful fields are arranged in small garden parcels called jenna which means "garden" and "paradise". The geometrical shape of the cultivations corresponds to the order which underlies the close relationship in nature between microcosm and macrocosm typical of the notion of oasis.
